Read not to contradict and confute

About This Quote

The saying, "Read not to contradict and confute," has been passed down through the ages. It's a bit deceiving. I assume that the person who said it didn't want people to read things for the simple reason that they might disagree with them and then start coming up with ways to refute them. Reading is a great way to learn and expand your mind and expand your knowledge base, but if you're just reading things you disagree with then you're not doing yourself any favors. You're missing out on all of the great ideas and helpful ideas that others have passed on to you.
